Radiesse
Radiesse Treatments in Surrey -A treatment with a dual identity
and a growing role in regenerative aesthetic medicine.
Introduction
Radiesse has been part of the aesthetic medicine toolkit for many years, originally used as a conventional dermal filler its role has evolved considerably. While it remains an effective structural filler in its standard form, it is increasingly used in a diluted preparation as a biostimulator; a treatment designed to improve skin quality and stimulate the body's own collagen production,
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a carrier gel. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral compound that occurs naturally in human bone and teeth, making it highly biocompatible with human tissue.
When injected, the carrier gel provides immediate volume and structural support, while the CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold within the tissue, stimulating fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin as the gel is gradually absorbed.
Although Radiesse shares the biostimulatory category with Sculptra, the two treatments work through distinctly different mechanisms at a cellular level — a distinction we explore in more detail in our dedicated comparison piece. (link)
When diluted or hyperdiluted with saline or local anaesthetic, the immediate volumetric effect is significantly reduced and biostimulation becomes the main effect. This diluted preparation is used for skin quality improvement, laxity, and texture concerns across larger surface areas including the neck, décolletage, and body.
What concerns will Radiesse address — and how is it used?
In its standard undiluted form, Radiesse addresses volume loss and structural contouring. The jawline, chin, cheeks, nasolabial folds, and the backs of the hands are among the most common indications, with results visible immediately and developing further over the following months.
In its diluted form, Radiesse addresses skin laxity, crepiness, and generalised decline in skin quality in areas where conventional filler would not be appropriate; the neck, décolletage, and body being the most common. At our Surrey-based clinic we have used it very successfully to improve skin texture on the décolletage.
What results might I expect from Radiesse?
With diluted or hyperdiluted Radiesse, results develop more gradually over four to eight weeks as the biostimulatory effect builds, with a similar duration of benefit. A course of two sessions is typically recommended for optimal results.
Is Radiesse safe?
Radiesse has a well-established safety profile, having been in clinical use for over two decades. Common side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, and tenderness at injection sites. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which makes practitioner skill and appropriate patient selection particularly important. All treatments are performed by our medically qualified doctors.
