The Nefertiti Lift — Redefining the Jawline Without Surgery

The Nefertiti Lift — Redefining the Jawline Without Surgery

Named after one of history's most celebrated profiles, the Nefertiti lift uses precisely placed botulinum toxin to sharpen the jawline and soften the neck. Here is an honest account of what it can achieve and who it works best for.

Named after the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, one of history's most celebrated profiles.

The thinking behind the technique

As the face ages, the platysma, the broad, flat muscle running from the chest and shoulders up through the neck, develops an increasingly strong downward pull on the lower face. This contributes to softening of the jawline, the appearance of vertical muscle bands in the neck, and the gradual loss of that clean transition between chin and neck that characterises a youthful profile.

The Nefertiti lift addresses this directly. By placing small doses of botox along the lower border of the jawline and into the vertical neck bands, we reduce that downward pull. The opposing elevating muscles, no longer counteracted, reassert themselves, subtly lifting the jawline and smoothing the neck in the process.

What it can achieve

In the right patient, the results are quietly impressive; a sharper jawline, softer platysmal bands, a cleaner neck contour. None of this is dramatic, and it should not be. The goal, as always, is a result that looks like a better version of the patient rather than evidence of treatment.

An honest conversation about results

Here is where we depart from the kind of treatment marketing that does patients no favours. The Nefertiti lift does not work equally well in everyone. Unlike botulinum toxin injected into the frown lines or forehead, where virtually every patient achieves at least some measurable result, the response to the Nefertiti technique is genuinely variable.

Some patients notice a pleasing and visible improvement in jawline definition and neck contour. Others, despite technically well-delivered treatment, see very little change. The frustrating clinical reality is that this variability is not reliably predictable in advance.

Factors such as platysmal muscle strength, skin laxity, and underlying bony structure all influence the outcome — but even a thorough assessment cannot guarantee which category a patient will fall into.

We make this clear before any treatment is agreed. A patient who proceeds on the basis of an honest explanation of variable results is one who can make a genuinely informed decision. One who proceeds expecting a guaranteed outcome is set up for disappointment — and that is a failure of the consultation, not the treatment.

Who it suits best

The technique tends to produce its best results in patients with good skin quality, early to moderate platysmal banding, and reasonable underlying jawline structure that has softened rather than significantly descended. Where significant skin laxity or structural change is the primary issue, a different approach will serve the patient better and we will say so.

A technique worth considering — with realistic expectations

The Nefertiti lift is a genuinely useful non-surgical option for lower face and neck rejuvenation. When it works, it works well. When it does not, the treatment is temporary and without lasting consequence. What it is not is a reliable universal solution and any practitioner presenting it as one is not giving their patient the full picture.
