For much of its 25 year history, Sculptra occupied a relatively quiet corner of aesthetic practice. Used by some, respected by those who knew it well, but never quite mainstream. That is now changing — and in our view, for very good reasons.

The patient we most often recommend Sculptra to is typically in their mid-fifties to late sixties. They are not dealing with significant volume loss in the mid-face, that is a different problem, better addressed with dermal fillers.
What they are concerned about is a general loss of facial tone, a degree of descent, and the early development of jowling. The face has begun to soften and slide in a way that doesn't yet require structural rebuilding, but that skin treatments alone won't adequately address.

Unlike fillers, which add volume immediately, Sculptra works gradually by encouraging collagen production. This results in more subtle, progressive changes.
-
For the majority of patients, we recommend two treatment sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. That interval is not arbitrary, it allows the initial collagen stimulation from the first session to begin developing before the second treatment builds on it.
-
Results develop gradually over 2~3 months as collagen is produced. This is a slower process than fillers but often leads to very natural-looking outcomes.
-
Results can last longer than many other treatments, although this varies between individuals and depends on the treatment plan. In many individuals Sculptra can last up to 2 years.
-
Sculptra has been used for many years and has an established safety profile when administered correctly by experienced practitioners.

No — changes are gradual. The aim is subtle improvement over time rather than an immediate visible change.

They work differently and suit different concerns.

Sculptra and Radiesse are both biostimulators — treatments that encourage the body to produce its own collagen rather than simply replacing lost volume with an injected substance. That shared label is accurate but potentially misleading. The two treatments work through distinctly different biological mechanisms, produce results on very different timelines, and suit patients with meaningfully different priorities.

The structural nature of male facial ageing makes Sculptra a compelling option.
Where hyaluronic acid fillers restore volume in a localised way, Sculptra works more diffusely, to restore the underlying tissue quality and support that has been lost. For a male patient whose face has lost structural integrity rather than developed isolated hollows, that distinction matters considerably.
